WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — With Bobby Petrino out as the head coach of the Louisville football Cardinals, Purdue coach Jeff Brohm is said to be the favorite to replace him.
At his weekly press conference at Ross-Ade Stadium, Brohm shut down repeated questions on the matter, insisting that it would not be appropriate to speak on the rumors.
“The best thing to do is to not comment of speculation,” Brohm said. “When things happen it’s important to be honest and forthright, but at the same time to just comment on things that have been said, I don’t think it’s right.”
Petrino was let go as the head coach of the University of Louisville’s football team after losing seven-straight games this season, one of which was a route by #2 Clemson which put up 77 points on the Cardinals.
Brohm was a quarterback for the Cardinals during his college days in the mid-90’s. He said if anything materializes, he plans to be truthful with his players and the Purdue faithful.
“Our guys and our team understand I’m going to be truthful,” Brohm insisted. “I want to win and I want our guys to win and we have plenty of work to do this week.
The Boilermakers feel in a 41-10 shellacking by the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Minneapolis over the weekend.
When asked what his aspirations as a head coach and whether or not he had built a connection with the Purdue community, he jokingly shrugged off the question.
“I like where I’m at,” said Brohm. “I take a lot of pride coaching here and I’m very appreciative of the job I have. I want to give this everything I have to help us win.”
Brohm was hired away from Western Kentucky in 2017 and in his first season in West Lafayette, led the Boilermakers to their first bowl game in six years. His team is on pace to do that again. They just need a win over either Wisconsin or Indiana in the next two weeks to become bowl.
