EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Students who like math and statistics will soon have a new degree to pursue at the University of Evansville.

The university’s Department of Mathematics has launched a new bachelor’s degree in actuarial science.

Students may enroll in the program beginning in the fall of 2019.

“Actuaries are experts at modeling and managing risk,” Mark Gruenwald, Ph.D., professor of mathematics and director of actuarial science, said in a statement. “They are highly trained professionals with strong analytical skills and specialized knowledge of math, statistics, and business. Their work provides financial security for insurance companies, multinational corporations, and the government.”

In addition to classes focused on actuarial science, the new program includes courses in math, statistics and data science, computer science, finance, economics, and accounting. It also prepares students for several of the actuarial exams required before and after graduation.
