CASS COUNTY, Ind. — The six people who died Wednesday in a Cass County house fire have been identified by Indiana State Police.

The victims were members of the same family and were between the ages of 42 years and three months.

They have been identified as:

  • Joseph Huddleston, 42
  • Brandi Vail, 25,
  • Kadee Huddleston, 10
  • Swayzee Hite, 3
  • Rhylie Hite, 1
  • Marshall Hite, 3 mos.

Joseph Huddleston was Kadee’s father and Brandi Vail’s stepfather. Swayzee, Rhylie, and Marshall were Brandi’s children.

Huddleston’s wife, Sheila, and son, Brandon, were able to escape the fire.

Fire investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Tony Slocum:

“There is no evidence indicating the fire was intentionally set. Major appliances such as the stove and water heater have been ruled out as sources of ignition. There is some evidence indicating the fire could have been caused by an electrical issue, but due to the destruction caused by the fire, the cause remains as undetermined.”

There were no working smoke detectors inside the home.
