INDIANAPOLIS — Dr. Lewis D. Ferebee, superintendent of Indianapolis Public Schools, has accepted a new position in Washington, D.C.

Ferebee will assume the role of Chancellor of the District of Columbia Public Schools, IPS announced Monday.

Dr. Ferebee started his work with IPS in 2013.

The IPS Board of School Commissioners said in a statement:

We are happy for Dr. Ferebee and we are proud of his work on behalf of the students in our district. We wish him and his family nothing but success in their future endeavors, and the important work of making sure that all children have a high-quality education available to them.

The IPS Board says it is “focused on the work we do on behalf of our children and families” and will meet soon to discuss interim leadership and the search for Dr. Ferebee’s replacement.
