An exhausting morning rush hour for south side commuters ended with a fatal crash involving a car and a semi.
The right three lanes of northbound I-65 were closed Tuesday night from north of County Line Rd. to north of Southport Rd for a deep paving project. The exit from Southport Rd. to northbound I-65 was also closed as part of the maintenance.
Overnight construction extended well into morning commute, and is expected to last into the afternoon hours. Drivers should also expect delays on U.S. 31, Emerson Ave., and other south side alternative routes.
Around 8am, one person was killed in at the beginning of the construction zone backup. The crash reportedly involved a car and a semi trailer.
