You may have noticed that the Federal Government is wonderfully gifted in the art of addressing problems by taking action and passing legislation that ultimately morphs a challenging situation into a full blown catastrophe. The Affordable Care Act, for example.

Apparently Senator Elizabeth Warren has yet to take notice of the scientifically fascinating phenomenon known as ‘Government Clusterf**ks,’ however.

Earlier this week, Senator Warren put forth a bill that would effectively create a government-run pharmaceutical manufacturer to mass-produce generic drugs. According to Warren, the program would allow the government to intervene when the market fails and prices for certain medications become unaffordable.

When the market ‘fails’? Clearly the Senator is either completely ignorant in her understanding of how a free market system actually works, or she’s using generic and benign language to camouflage her true intentions with this bill. We suspect it’s the later and what Senator Warren really means is that if the government determines a pharmaceutical manufacturer is ‘greedy’ and offering a life-saving miracle drug at an ‘unfair’ price point because they have the market cornered, the benevolent folks of Washington D.C. will be more than happy to swoop in and ‘adjust’ that ‘failing’ market on the pharmaceutical company’s behalf.

Such a kind and good-hearted organization is the Federal Government.

The bill, dubbed the Affordable Drug Manufacturing Act, is unlikely to pass the Republican-led Senate (thank God), but according to analysts, it gives the American people an idea of how a “Warren White House could try to radically revamp the federal government’s role in the pharmaceutical market in order try to lower prices.” That’s right; Warren still has her eye on a potential run for President in 2020. Sweet!

Warren’s released a statement earlier this week in which she expressed her frustration with… well, capitalism, apparently.

“In market after market, competition is dying as a handful of giant companies spend millions to rig the rules, insulate themselves from accountability, and line their pockets at the expense of American families,” the press release states.

Hey, there’s that Progressive Socialist language we were awaiting!
