VALPARAISO, Ind. — Sam and Cosmo escaped death when a veterinarian in northwestern Indiana refused to put the healthy dogs down.

The man who owned the dogs was moving in with his girlfriend who was allergic.

He took the Sam and Cosmo to a veterinarian in Portage, Indiana, and asked they be put down.

Instead, they were taken to Begin Again Rescue Co. in Valparaiso.

Penny Emerson, president of Begin Again Rescue Co., told The Northwest Indiana Times the dogs were heartbroken when they arrived, but they got them to perk back up.

The two have been adopted and are now living a happy life with an Illinois couple.
