TELL CITY, Ind.--One of the kids hurt in a fire in Tell City, called 911. Three other kids died.

Danielle Plock Sims, 11; Thomas Plock Sims, 6; Roseanna Plock Sims, 3, all died this morning in that Perry County fire. The mom, Selina Applegate, was hurt when she tried to save her kids. She’s in the hospital, along with two other kids who were in the house.

At a press conference this morning, the mayor asked for support. The schools are offering counseling.

“I would reach out to the community and ask for their help,” said Mayor Jim Adams, “not only with three children who have lost their lives in this fire, but also with the remainder of the family.”

The 911 call was made about 3:25 this morning.

“Tell City officers arrived first, tried to make a rescue, and they had fire shooting from almost every window on the ground floor,” said Fire Chief Greg Linne. “When our guys arrived, we went to an upstairs window.”

Linne said they had to come back out because they were getting burned through their protective equipment.

“This is one of those things where you don’t want to get any information like this early in the morning,” said Adams. “It’s very unfortunate. It’s a tragedy.”

Everyone who survived, including the mom, the girl who called 911, and a 13-year-old boy who escaped through the window, are being treated at different hospitals. The children were all siblings.

The state fire marshal is investigating.
