The new Congress was sworn in on Thursday, and newcomers said they were excited and upbeat, but also aware that they faced a tough situation, given a standoff in Washington that has led to a partial government shutdown.

Meanwhile, GOP voters voiced concerns that the new Democratic majority could mean a return to higher taxes, more regulation, and an increasingly bloated government.

Should Republicans be concerned? Not according to townhall.com’s Lindsay Marie, who dropped by the Hammer and Nigel show Thursday to talk conservatives off the political ledge.

Marie:

“Democrats don’t have the votes to do that. But I would say that Government has been increasing – regardless of who has been in office. Republicans aren’t going to like me saying that, but it has been growing every year.

… A lot of [Trump’s] policies would actually increase government.”
