INDIANAPOLIS — Three men are at large after a Friday night robbery was interrupted by police at a west-side pawn shop.
At least one officer fired at the suspects after one of them pointed a gun at police. No one was injured, police believed.
Police were sent shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday to the EZ Pawn, 3376 W. 10th St., on a report of a robbery of a business in progress. That’s at the North Tibbs Avenue intersection.
A police spokesman said two officers arrived as the three men were leaving the store. One of the suspects pointed a gun at one of two IMPD officers, and at least one officer fired at the men. The men then fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood.
After the armed robbery, multiple police cars from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office blocked off the intersection and surrounding blocks.
Police have not publicly given descriptions of the men they are seeking. Dogs and a special weapons and tactics team searched the area but did not find the men.
Items believed to have been taken from the store during the robbery were recovered, police said. It was not immediately known if the store has surveillance video of the robbery.
The officer who fired a shot will be on administrative leave until an investigation is completed. Police have not named the officer.
IMPD Deputy Chief of Operations Josh Barker said, “We will continue to be on scene processing all the information and doing the best investigation we can. Like I said before, anyone in the neighborhood with information pertaining to the events that unfolded here, we urge you to contact the police department or Crime Stoppers (of Central Indiana) immediately.”
