INDIANAPOLIS--The father of a Roncalli High School guidance counselor suspended because of her same-sex marriage claims he has been told by Roncalli he is no longer welcome for Roncalli’s Senior Retreat program.

In a Facebook post, Shelly Fitzgerald said her father, Patrick Fitzgerald, was told by Roncalli that he would no longer be invited to work the Roncalli retreats.  The retreat gives Roncalli seniors an opportunity to explore their faith and their relationship with God, family, and friends.

Patrick had been working with the program for the last 26 years.

Shelly said her father told her he was “heartbroken” when school leaders told him he would not be invited back because of “issues over the last five months.”

After she was suspended, Shelly filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Roncalli and the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
