INDIANAPOLIS–A drug dealing operation on the southwest side of Indianapolis has been crippled. Federal, state and Indianapolis police raided several homes and businesses Wednesday, and arrested 20 people. U.S. Atty. Josh Minkler said the feds and IMPD have been studying the organization for eight months.
“They were charged and have been charged with conspiracy to distribute heroin, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine and some firearms-related charges,” he said, in a Thursday news conference. He also said 40 guns were taken, along with $150,000 in cash.
Paying for their own investigation
“In a bit of irony, that drug money will be federally forfeited and will be equitably shared with law enforcement agencies,” said Minkler. “This drug-trafficking organization will actually pay for the investigation that led to their arrest.”

That investigation was called Operation: Garage Band.
The arrests were mostly in an area called Haughville. Twenty-three people were indicted in January. Twenty were arrested.
According to the indictment, Jshaun Trice and Terrence Stum directed the activities of a meth heroin and cocaine trafficking organization. Jshaun Trice, Terrence Stum, Demetrick Holder and Gerald Hoskins sold the drugs to other smaller drug dealers.
Minkler said 30 grams of Fentanyl were taken from the dealers. One gram is enough to make for a lethal overdose.
As for the 40 guns, “Forty guns that we can guarantee all of you will not be used in shootings”.
Minkler said the raids were part of an on-going effort to cut down on gun violence in the city by the Dept. of Justice and Indy law enforcement.
