DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. — A man has been arrested and charged in the overdose death of a Delaware County man, according to the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to documents, an investigation into the death of John Adams began after an autopsy revealed that the cause of death was “acute mixed drug intoxication.”

Authorities, after obtaining Adams’ cell phone, discovered that on Jan. 19, 2019, Adams began a conversation with Joel West on Facebook Messenger, documents state.

West starts by telling Adams the “I got some” and Adams proceeds to ask if West would be willing to trade Xanax or if West would be willing to allow Adams to pay later. However, both of those offers were denied and West and Adams agreed upon .15mg of methamphetamine for $15.

The drug deal was completed during the overnight hours on Jan. 17, the date which investigators say Adams took the drug that ultimately led to his death.

On Feb. 21, West was taken into custody and then during an interview with investigators admitted to selling Adams the drug, according to court documents.

West has been charged with dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death.
