DUBOIS COUNTY, Ind. — Ladies, are you looking to learn how to enjoy more outdoor activities?

Coming up in late April, Patoka Lake will be hosting their annual Wilderness Women’s Weekend. Last year, interpretive naturalist Dana Reckelhoff at Patoka Lake said they had 60 women take part. They’ve expanded it to 80 available slots this year because the event was so popular.

“It’s just activities that are gear towards women that they may have always wanted to try,” Rechelhoff told Indiana Outdoors.

She said they are offering “pretty much anything” you can do outside: wilderness survival, camping, shooting trap, archery, backpacking, outdoor art, Dutch oven cooking and bird watching just to name a few.

“We are even offering self-defense classes,” Reckelhoff added. “What’s cool about he self-defense courses is that you can use that in an outdoor setting, like on a hiking trail, or even back home when you’re in the parking lot of a grocery store.”

Spots are limited though. Registration last year was $55 a person. You can call the Patoka Lake Nature Center at 812-685-2464 to learn how to register for this year’s event.
