If you live on the north side and have an emotional connection to the Ditch Rd. over bridge over I-465, I’m about to break your heart.

Starting this Monday, March 4th, the Ditch Rd. bridge is going to close until the end of September. According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the bridge’s “service life is up,” and has to be mauled, gutted, destroyed, and eventually replaced.

In the meantime, INDOT’s suggested reroute has drivers using Spring Mill Rd. and 96th St. to get around:

Ditch Rd Bridge closed. Suggested route: eastbound 86th street, northbound spring mill road, westbound 96th street, ditch road

If that’s not your thing, you can use the Township Line Rd/Towne Rd. bridge over I-465 to get back to Ditch.

As always, be cool in construction zones. Slow up, put the phone away, and do your best to give workers plenty of room. They really appreciate it, and they also like to, you know, be alive.

Coming soon, an update on the Central Ave. bridge, the Oliver Ave. closure, and the great big Keystone Pkwy bridge they’re building over 96th St.

Although unlikely, may your travels be pothole free.
