Republican State Senator Jim Merritt secured his party’s nomination as candidate for Mayor of Indianapolis Tuesday night, pitting him against incumbent Mayor Democrat Joe Hogsett in the 2019 election.
Merritt and Hogsett are running on many of the same issues, including public safety, roads and bridges, and economic development.
Rep. Merritt dropped by the Hammer and Nigel Show Wednesday evening to celebrate Tuesday’s win and explain why it’s time for a change in leadership in the city of Indianapolis.
Merritt has served in the Indiana Senate since 1990. He has served as Chairman of the Senate Utilities Committee and has worked on tackling the state’s opioid and heroin crisis.
