DOHA, Qatar  U.S. B-52 bombers have been sent to the Middle East over what Washington calls threats from Iran.

U.S. Central Command says the Stratofortress bombers have arrived at a U.S. base in Qatar.

The U.S. military said on Tuesday that the bombers will be part of additional forces sent to the region to counter what the Trump administration says are “clear indications” of threats from Iran.

The Islamic Republic has dismissed the new U.S. deployments as “psychological warfare.”

The U.S. tightened sanctions on Iran this month by eliminating waivers that had allowed some countries to buy its oil.

Iran has responded by rolling back some curbs on its nuclear program that were agreed upon in the landmark 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
