HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind.--A mechanical problem in a Mustang caused the driver to lose control of it and the Mustang ended up under a semi as a result.

The driver survived. The Mustang did not. The accident happened around 12:10 pm Sunday.

State police say the 1989 Ford Mustang driven by Ryan Lawson, 40, of New Haven was going north on I-69 in the passing lane near the 287 mile marker. Lawson was driving up alongside a 2017 Volvo semi-tractor trailer when the mechanical problem caused him to lose control of it.

The driver of the semi, Ivan Stovbun, 59, of Montreal, Canada, didn’t realize that the Mustang was stuck under his semi and kept going another half mile with the Mustang wedged underneath the semi before stopping.

Lawson got out of the car in time with no injuries. Stovbun was not injured either.

Traffic on I-69 was backed up for about thirty minutes until the passing lane was opened to allow traffic to move.
