INDIANAPOLIS — NASCAR icon and NBC Sports analyst Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will drive the 2019 Corvette Grand Sport Pace Car for the 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500.

Dale Jr. will be in a dual role during “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” Along with driving the pace car, he will join NBC Sports to serve as a commentator during the race.

“I was already excited to attend my first Indianapolis 500 with NBC Sports, but driving the Pace Car just takes it to another level,” Dale Jr. said Friday. “I’m proud to be a part of such a prestigious event at a place that means so much to racing history. This will be an experience that I’ll cherish forever.”

This will the second time Dale Jr. has led the field to the green flag at IMS. He drove the pace car at the start of the 2018 Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard last September.

Dale Jr. made 17 starts at Indianapolis Motor Speedway between 2000 and 2017, with a best finish of fourth in 2012.

He now serves as a NASCAR television analyst for NBC Sports. He remains one of the most beloved drivers in American motorsports history, as fans named him NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver for a record 15 consecutive years.
