Heat Index Nears 105 Degrees All Week in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS — A stretch of dangerously hot and humid weather is gripping Indiana this week, with heat indices expected to reach between 100 and 105 degrees each day.
A strong high-pressure system parked over the eastern U.S. is driving the heat wave, which has prompted heat advisories through late Friday. Monday will bring mostly sunny skies with high temperatures in the mid-90s and feels-like temps topping out near 105.
Overnight conditions will stay warm and muggy, with lows in the mid-70s.
The pattern may shift midweek as the ridge of high pressure begins to weaken. That could bring small chances for afternoon and evening showers and storms, though many areas may remain dry. A few locations could see heavy rain, offering brief relief.
Northern Indiana faces a marginal risk for severe storms Tuesday, with damaging winds and large hail possible.
Rain chances grow by the weekend, with scattered showers and storms likely both Saturday and Sunday. Highs will still hover around 90 degrees but may feel slightly less oppressive.
A cold front could bring broader relief Monday, offering cooler temperatures and better rain chances as July begins.
