LEBANON, Ind. — Anthony Baumgardt was sentenced Wednesday for the murder of Boone Co. Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Pickett.

As part of a plea agreement, 22-year-old Baumgardt pleaded guilty to murder, meth possession, and resisting a law enforcement officer.

He was sentenced to life in prison without parole for Deputy Pickett’s murder. He also received 6 years for meth possession and 1 year for resisting law enforcement. The sentences will run concurrently.

Boone Superior Judge Brice Petit said he would not have accepted the plea agreement if Pickett’s family had not said it was their wish that Baumgardt serve life in prison instead of the death penalty.
