WASHINGTON — President Trump is defending his threat to impose tariffs on Mexican goods.
Trump tweeted today that Mexico has “taken advantage of the US for decades.”
His administration said it is putting a 5{fa7adc80df2e023940cc66418ee6bf3ea4951b478396a103014e7d5f7d7da9d3} tariff on goods imported from Mexico in response to the number of illegal immigrants crossing into the US.
Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley slammed Trump’s threat, saying trade policy and border security are separate issues. He called it a “misuse of presidential tariff authority.” Grassley chairs the powerful Senate Finance Committee.
