INDIANAPOLIS — A Firefighter was injured Wednesday after being shocked and falling from a roof while responding to a storm-related incident.

According to a news release, the 29-year-old firefighter, a four-year department member, was stable Wednesday night at Eskenazi Hospital. The release did not name the firefighter.

Firefighters responded at 5:17 p.m. to a possible house fire at 6350 E. Berwyn St. They found a tree limb on fire against the house and downed, arcing power lines across the garage.

The injured firefighter was using a chainsaw on the roof of the single-story house when the downed power lines electrocuted him and fell about 12 feet to the ground at 6:52 p.m.

The fire department said this was one of three fires it responded to between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, as storms with gusts up to 70 mph hit Indianapolis. The fires were part of 309 calls that included downed trees, power lines, and damage to utility poles.
