BLOOMINGTON, Ind.–Gov. Mike Braun on Monday afternoon announced appointments to the Indiana University Board of Trustees as the Indiana University’s website only showed six trustees.

Missing from that website were the three trustees who’d alumni had elected.

In the final minutes of the 2025 legislative session in April, Indiana lawmakers added a provision to a biennial budget bill that gave the governor the sole power to hire and fire all nine members of the IU Board of Trustees. Braun signed the measure into law. Previously, the governor had appointed only six of the nine trustees.

Trustee Vivian Winston on Monday morning received a letter of her removal from the Board of Trustees. She was one of the three alumni-appointed members. She and the other two alumni-appointed trustees, Donna Spears and Jill Burnett, were no longer listed on the IU website on Monday afternoon.

Braun announced Monday his appointees to the IU Board of Trustees include Sage Steele, James Bopp Jr., Brian Eagle, and W. Quinn Buckner, all of whom are Indiana University alumni. Their terms vary, with Steele and Bopp Jr. serving until June 30, 2028, Eagle until June 30, 2027, and Buckner until June 30, 2026.

Braun wrote in a statement, “I am confident that these appointees, who are all Indiana University alumni, will serve in the best interest of the university and will help guide IU back in the right direction as a premier flagship university in our state.”

Only six trustees were listed on the IU website as of 2:45 p.m. Monday: Bucker, the chair of the board; Cindy Lucchese, vice chair; Cathy Langham; J. Timothy Morris; Kyle S. Seibert, the chair of the student relations committee; and Isaac Torres.
