HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind.– – U.S. 36 in Avon is a headache during rush hour. The Indiana Dept. of Transportation wants your thoughts on a proposal that would make the drive a little bit easier.

INDOT will host a public hearing next week about a plan to ease congestion and improve safety on US 36, with a major focus on the area between Ronald Reagan Parkway and Raceway Road.

INDOT wants to add lanes in both directions on US 36 from Raceway Road to Shiloh Crossing, from just east of the Marion/Hendricks Co. line, and extending one mile into the town of Avon.

The plan also calls for the existing two-way left-turn lane to be replaced with a raised median to prevent drivers from turning left across traffic.

The public hearing is Thursday, Sept. 19 at Bridgeport Elementary School, located at 9035 West Morris St in Indianapolis. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The event begins at 6 p.m.

A full description of the plan is available at https://www.in.gov/indot/3968.htm.
