(INDIANAPOLIS) – The Red Line isn’t the only way Indy hopes to get cars off the road.

The fourth annual “Car Free Indy Day” celebration encouraged people to find another way to work for the day, and then sign a pledge on Monument Circle to make it a habit. Commuter Connect program manager Jennifer Gebhard says more than a thousand people signed up.

Commuter Connect says the organization has grown from eight Indianapolis van pools when she started to 38 today. Commuter Connect helps organize those pools and arranges parking discounts and other incentives for companies to urge their employees to commute together.

The Monument Circle event also showcased other commuting alternatives, including IndyGo and scooters.
