WASHINGTON —  The Pentagon is releasing specifics about the U.S. deployment to Saudi Arabia.

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper announced they are sending about 200 troops, one Patriot missile defense battery and four Sentinel RADARs overseas. According to manufacturer Raytheon, the Sentinel is a radar that “alerts front-line air-defense weapons whenever it sees hostile planes, helicopters, drones, or missiles.”

The Pentagon says other additional forces “are on standby.”

A deployment to Saudi Arabia was announced last week in response to the drone attacks on major Saudi oil facilities.
