RIYADH, Saudi Arabia. — The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia is denying accusations that he ordered the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
“Today the investigations are being carried out,” said Mohammad bin Salman to CBS’s “60 Minutes”. Once charges are proven against someone, regardless of their rank it will be taken to court. No exceptions. If there is any such information that charges me, I hope it is brought forth publicly.”
Salmansaid the killing was a “heinous crime,” but he absolutely didn’t order it. However, he did say he does take responsibility for the murder.
“This was a henious crime,” he said. “But I take full responsibility as a leader in Saudi Arabia. Especially, since it was committed by individuals working for the Saudi government.”
U.S. intelligence agencies do have reason to believe that Salman did in fact order the killing.
Khashoggi, an Indiana State University graduate, was killed after going into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last October. He was an outspoken critic of the Saudi government as a columnist for the Washington Post.
