LAFAYETTE, Ind. — She was charged with abandoning her adopted child in Lafayette, now, she’s asking the judge to let her leave the state.

Kristine Barnett is asking the judge to allow her to go back to her home in Bradenton, Florida, to continue working, said WLFI. She is currently required to stay in Indiana.

She and Michael Barnett are accused of leaving their adopted daughter in an apartment on North 11th Street in Lafayette before they moved to Canada.

Prosecutors said the Barnetts adopted a Ukranian girl in 2010, who had a form of dwarfism. Prosecutors also said the Barnetts had the girl’s age legally changed from 8 to 22-years-old.

Both Kristine and Michael Barnett have pleaded not guilty. A jury trial date had been set for Jan. 28.

If the judge lets her go back to Florida, Kristine Barnett has said she will return for all scheduled court hearings.
