SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Chloe Weigand’s grandfather is charged with negligent homicide.
Salvatore “Sam” Anello, of South Bend, was arrested Monday.
Weigand, who was 18 months old, died when she fell 11 stories from a window of the Freedom of the Sea cruise ship in July.
The ship, operated by Royal Caribbean, was docked in Puerto Rico, when Weigand died.
Anello told authorities he believed there was glass in the window when he held her up to bang on it, like at a hockey game.
Anello blamed the cruise line for the window that was open in the children’s play area.
He’s scheduled to answer the charge Nov. 20.
