SOUTH BEND, Ind.–Notre Dame’s murals of Christopher Columbus aren’t being covered yet.

Last month, Notre Dame President John Jenkins said, they were building a new exhibit in the Main Building that would include images of the Columbus murals on the second floor of the building.  It would feature reproductions of the murals, while the original pieces of art remain in place.

Jenkins said the murals will be accessible to faculty members who use them for teaching and research but otherwise be covered in fabric.

They’re waiting until that exhibit is built. That exhibit won’t be done until 2022.

Some students, teachers, and alumni have complained that the murals are offensive.

Jenkins previously wrote a letter about the murals, which you can read here.
