Bad news for our friends on the left side of American politics this morning: a new poll shows that independent voters – a key demographic for the 2020 election –  appear to be unimpressed with the impeachment campaign by Democrats against President Donald Trump.

According to the Politico-Morning Consult poll, independent voters increased their opposition to the impeachment inquiry by 10 percentage points after several days of impeachment hearings.

It also marked that among independents the support of the impeachment inquiry dropped by 7 percentage points, from 47 percent to 40 percent.

Overall, support for impeachment among all respondents fell by 2 points to 48 percent, while opposition increased from 42 percent to 45 percent.

Independents are considered a crucial demographic in elections because they’re more easily swayed to one side versus another.

The Politico–Morning Consult poll surveyed 1,994 registered voters from Nov. 15 to 17. The margin of error is of 2 percentage points.
