Conan, the dog who was injured during the mission that killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was honored Monday afternoon at the White House, by President Trump, Vice President Pence and First Lady Melania.
And get this: Conan, named after talk show host Conan O’Brien, even received a medal!
“Conan came over from the Middle East — just arrived with some of the great people from the special forces that did the – it was a flawless attack,” President Trump said from the steps of the White House. “And al-Baghdadi is gone. That was a flawless attack and I just met quite a few of them. And we just gave Conan a medal and a plaque.”

Yes, it’s undoubtedly controversial to give a canine an award that’s generally reserved for human soldiers. On the other hand, President Obama received a Nobel Peace Prize, Caitlyn Jenner received the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, and Joe Hogsett secured another term as Mayor of Indianapolis. We live in a society of diminished expectations.

“The dog was at the White House! The only thing the reporters knew ahead of time – literally all they heard – ‘Rose Garden in 10 minutes.’
They get to the Rose Garden and they’re like, ‘Oh, my God! It’s happening!’
So Trump calls over the Vice President. Pence is petting the dog as he’s talking, and the dog is looking up at Mike Pence like this is the greatest human being in the whole world. Pence is smiling like I’ve never seen him smile before, and he’s petting the dog.
This might have been Mike Pence’s finest moment.”
