GREENWOOD, Ind. — A mother and her three-year-old son are back together after the little boy was in his mom’s car when it was stolen from a Greenwood gas station.

Police say the mother left her car running when she went into the Road Ranger Travel Shop to pay for gas on Tuesday afternoon. That’s when a thief jumped in the car and drove off with her little boy still inside.

The thief took the car nine miles away from the gas station before dropping the boy at the intersection of Keystone and Troy Avenues on the east side of Indianapolis. A person saw the boy alone on the side of the road and called the police.

The boy and his mom are reunited but the car is still missing. It’s gray 2019 Kia Optima.

Charges are not expected to be filed against the mother.
