The driver who was killed during Monday’s high-speed chase has been identified as 64-year-old Charles Alexander.

LAWRENCE, Ind. — A man that led police on a high-speed chase is accused of causing a fatal crash in Lawrence on Monday afternoon.

Indianapolis Metro Police say officers were trying to stop a suspect on a weapons violation, but the driver took off. Speeds reached 100 miles per hour, as the chase went from Marion County, into Hancock County, and back into Marion County.

It ended when the suspect ran a red light at the intersection of Oaklandon Rd. and Pendleton Pike and crashed into another vehicle, killing that driver and injuring the passenger. The suspect was arrested.

IMPD says the chase and the crash will get an internal review to ensure that officers complied with department policy.
