JAY COUNTY, Ind. — Two high school softball coaches from Portland, Ind. have been charged with the murder of a Jay County man.
Esther Stephen, 31, and Shelby Hiestand, 18, were arrested on Tuesday for the murder of Shea Briar, and charged on Wednesday, said the Muncie Star Press.
Briar was found seriously injured on Sunday when deputies responded to a call about a person on the road in Jay County. Briar was taken to Adams Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he died.
According to court documents, Briar and Stephen were named in a lawsuit filed by Briar last November over child custody.
Stephen and Hiestand are in the Jay County Jail and have been placed on administrative leave at Fort Recovery High School in Ohio, where they coached softball.
