LIZTON, Ind. — A day after a math teacher and football coach at Tri-West High School in Lizton was arrested, police have also charged the school’s former principal.

Adam Benner is no longer the principal of Tri-West, but while he was principal, police say he and the district didn’t immediately report accusations against Tyler Bruce. Bruce was arrested this week and charged with child seduction and obstruction.

Court documents say Benner addressed the accusations in March of 2019 but did not inform the victim’s family or child services. Benner is now charged with failure to report.

The Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office started a criminal investigation in May 2019, after an anonymous tipster said Bruce’s wife had caught him messaging a young girl on Snapchat.

When deputies talked with the girl she said Bruce had touched her over and under her clothing and asked her to send him naked pictures with her face cropped out. The court documents also said he told the girl she “blue balled” him when she refused to visit him at his house while his wife was out of town for Mother’s Day weekend.

While these interviews were taking place, Benner resigned as principal of Tri-West High School. In October, Michael Springer resigned as superintendent of Northwest Hendricks Schools in protest of the district’s handling of the situation.
