WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind –– A Purdue student who served as the sports editor for the school’s newspaper was arrested on rape charges late Saturday night.
West Lafayette Police say officers were called to the 100 block of South River Road around 11:57 p.m. Friday for a reported sexual assault. Officers spoke with the person who reported the assault and later identified 21-year-old Vincent F. Lembo as the suspect.
Police found Lembo around 9:50 p.m. Saturday and took him to the Tippecanoe County Jail. He faces preliminary charges of two counts of rape and one count of criminal confinement.
Purdue’s student directory lists Lembo as a student, and the Purdue Exponent, the school’s newspaper, identified him as its sports editor. The publication has since removed him from the position. Prosecutors will decide on formal charges at a later date.
