WHITESTOWN, Ind. — A man stopped to help people he thought were stranded on the side of the road, what he really saw were two men trying to steal car parts.

36-year-old Robert Grant and 72-year-old Paul Daniels of Indianapolis were arrested for trying to steal a catalytic converter from a car on the side of I-65 near Whitestown.

On Thursday, a man saw a silver car and a red pick-up truck on the side of the road. Grant and Daniels were working on the silver car, one was lying next to the car with a saw.

When the other man walked up the two men got back into the truck and drove away.

The man called police, and Indiana State Police stopped the truck on I-465 near 10th Street in Indianapolis.

ISP said a catalytic converter from a 2004-2010 Ford F-150 was found in the back of the truck.

Anyone in Indy or Boone County who may have had a catalytic converter stolen on Thursday before noon should call the Indiana State Police at 317-899-8577.

Grant and Daniels were taken to the Boone County Jail.
