USAID Cannot Dodge DOGE
Andrew Langer of CPAC and occasional fill-in host for Tony Katz Today to talk about how DOGE has been going so far and how Elon Musk and Donald Trump agree to shut down USAID.
So much has been made of Elon Musk pressing Donald Trump to put an end to USAID, which is really not about actual aid, it’s all about big government and what we’ve allowed our our. Government to become, this radical rise of the agency class. These unaccountable agencies that have these massive budgets, they can create a rule that has the effect of law. This is why going back to the Supreme Court, the decision on Chevron deference was so important. And it’s when members of Congress were infuriated that what the Supreme Court said “no, these agencies can’t just decide what the law is.”

They (the agencies) have a scope to which they deal with, and everything else is a question for Congress. Members of Congress didn’t want to have to be bothered. They just want to take their money, get good parking spots and maybe speak at a lunch, where nobody’s gonna yell at them. That’s the goal. So, what is going on with USAid, and what’s going on in general with DOGE? What exactly is this Department of Government Efficiency trying to cut and what needs to get cut? Well, clearly the step #1, amongst other steps has been USAID and this is not about foreign aid. That’s not what USAID is, the United States Agency for International Development. It’s not only just, uh, curbing it, but ending it all together. Well, let’s be really clear about this. The, the issue of USAID and the need for reforming USAID is not new. It’s not something Donald Trump invented. But in fact, going back to even during the second Gulf War.
