WASHINGTON–Kelly Loeffler has been selected by President Donald Trump to preside over the Small Business Administration. Indiana Republican Senator Todd Young spoke to Loeffler in confirmation hearings this week.

Young is part of the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. He asked Loeffler how she’d keep small businesses competitive in the United States.

“First of all, respecting that small business is about free enterprise and it’s not about the government. We have to look at ourselves,” said Loeffler.

Loeffler went on to say a big part of that is getting workers back in the office.

Young asked if she had specific ideas about how the Small Business Administration might be modernized.

“I would look at a broad range of efficiency, both cost and technological efficiencies that could be gained. I’ll be looking at organizational design,” said Loeffler.

Loeffler said they will be driven by metrics and they’ll have goals to improve.

“Well I and the rest of the committee definitely want to help you be successful,” said Young.

Loeffler is venture capitalist with a net worth of about $1 billion. She also has worked at major corporations that include Toyota Motor Sales USA, Citigroup and William Blair. And for 10 years, she also co-owned the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream.

If confirmed by the Senate, Loeffler has pledged to donate her annual salary of $207,500 to charity.

The Republican served as a Georgia senator from Jan. 6, 2020, to Jan. 20, 2021. Gov. Brian Kemp named her to fill the seat vacated by retired GOP Sen. Johnny Isakson. She was defeated by Raphael Warnock, a Democrat.
