WASHINGTON–Indiana Republican Senator Todd Young is giving his stamp of approval to Sean Duffy, President-elect Trump’s pick to be the next Transportation Secretary.
Duffy is currently a co-host of The Bottom Line on Fox Business, as well as a contributor on Fox News. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the U.S. representative for Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district from 2011 to 2019. After resigning from Congress, he became a lobbyist.
Duffy has been in confirmation hearings this week in the Senate. Young addressed Duffy by saying that he was appreciative of meeting Duffy and Duffy’s commitment to the Interstate 69 Ohio River Crossing Project. That is a planned bridge to carry the Interstate 69 extension over the Ohio River between Evansville, Indiana, and Henderson, Kentucky.
“I would welcome the opportunity to work with you on the project and learn more. Possibly, I’d love to come to Indiana and see with you, per our conversation in your office,” said Duffy.
Young responded to that by saying, “Fantastic!”
They both also discussed autonomous vehicles. Those kinds of vehicles employ driver assistance technologies to remove the need for a human operator.
“This is not just wonderful technology with the chance to make our roads safer. This is also a national security issue,” said Duffy.
Duffy and Young both said it’s important not to fall behind China or other countries in AV technology.
“Right now, we have a patchwork of laws from state to state. I believe there has to be a federal law by which all of these innovators can abide by no matter if they’re in Texas, California, or somewhere else. I’ll always make sure that safety is key,” said Duffy.
Duffy says after safety; they want to give a wide runway for these companies and innovators to create products that are going to bring us this new technology that can revolutionize the way the United States gets items and how citizens travel.
