INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Rep. Jake Teshka, a South Bend native representing the city in the Indiana House, offered a statement following the deadly Bourbon Street attack in New Orleans that left at least 10 dead and dozens injured.
The incident occurred when a truck, which reportedly crossed the Mexico border days earlier, plowed into a crowd in the French Quarter. President-elect Donald Trump has pledged full support for New Orleans in the wake of the tragedy.
Teshka declined an interview with WIBC and issued a statement urging Hoosiers in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl to remain alert.
“I encourage all Hoosiers who have traveled to New Orleans for the game to obey all local and federal authorities’ directions and remain vigilant. Irish fans are well acquainted with the tagline ‘All Fight.’ It means more than fighting for athletic victory. It speaks to the inner grit that the athletes possess. That same grit runs deep in the hearts of Americans. We are resilient. We will come together through this tragedy, lift each other up and move forward unified,” Teshka said.
