INDIANAPOLIS–The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) says they will be deploying drivers to pre-treat the roads before snow arrives tonight.
Auboni Hart with DPW says they are taking all of the proactive measures they can.
“We’re essentially salting the roads ahead of the first initial snowfall that we are expected to get between 2 and 3 am,” said Hart.
She says a team of a dozen drivers will operate four trucks to pre-treat and salt the roads beginning at 11 pm.
“They’re definitely going to be 12 hour shifts. Our next teams will come in at around 7 am. Then we will add to the teams throughout the day to make sure that we’re keeping the roads clear and safe,” said Hart.
Hart said there will be a steady flow of drivers working throughout the day to keep the streets clear of snow.
She’s also issuing these reminders:
-Allow extra time for travel
-Maintain safe distances from snowplow trucks
-Clear your vehicle of any snow or other visual obstructions before driving
-Drive at slower speeds
-Leave extra distance between other vehicles on the road
-Pack bags of sand, blankets, water, and extra clothes
