[West Lafayette, IN]- Another week and another loss for the Purdue Boilermaker football team.

This time, it came in the Big Ten conference opener against Nebraska. The Cornhuskers found themselves leaving Ross-Aide Stadium with a 28-10 victory.

The first half was a struggle for both offenses, neither of which found the endzone in a 0-0 tie at the break. Purdue jumped out ahead in the third quarter with a 45-yard field goal by Spencer Porath. Nebraska would put up the first seven points of the game in the third quarter.

Trailing 7-3 in the fourth quarter, the Boilermakers would give up two rushing touchdowns and a pick six to Nebraska. With only 1:49 left in the game and Purdue being down 28-3, Hudson Card and Leland Smith would ensure Purdue did not end the game without a touchdown.

Postgame, Purdue Head Coach Ryan Walters only had four words to describe his feelings on the game.

“Extremely disappointed and frustrated,” Walters said on the Purdue Sports YouTube page.

Card would complete eighteen of his twenty-five passes for 174 yards. He finished the day with a 1:1 Touchdown to interception ratio.

The rushing attack only mustered 50 total yards. Devin McKobee led the team in yards and carries with thirteen attempts for 41 yards. Reggie Love had ten carries for 33 yards, but Card’s -22 yards rushing brought the team total down.

Jaron Tibbs led the team in receiving, hauling in five passes for 46 yards. Tight End Max Klare added 40 more yards to his season in the loss.

With all the blemishes by the team, one of the biggest was thirteen penalties for 135 yards. Six of those penalties were for pass interference.

“I thought there were a couple of them that were blatant,” Walters said, “There were also some that were judgement calls. The one’s that drive you crazy are the pre and post snap penalties. the stepping over the receiver, that’s stupid. This is a disciplined program and that is not what we’re teaching.”

Purdue’s offense had a grand total of 224 yards on the day, but the defense allowed 405. The team won the third down conversion battle, converting seven of fifteen attempts.

It’s now back to the drawing board for the Boilermakers this week. They head to Wisconsin next Saturday for another Big Ten showdown. Kickoff is at Noon eastern.
