HENRY COUNTY, Ind. — Police say an elderly man has died following a plane crash Tuesday afternoon in Henry County.

Officers believe an 82-year-old Middletown man was in the aircraft that crashed on a private runway near U.S. 36 and North County Road 200 West. He has been identified as David Province.

At this time, it is not clear why the plane crashed. The 1975 Stewart Bowers Flybaby ultimately landed on its roof in a field near Robert’s Airfield.

No one else was on board. State Police and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.

This crash follows another incident in Anderson last week that may have killed four people. That plane – which had been coming from Iowa – went down in a field near East County Road 100 South.

Captain Darwin Dwiggins with Madison County explained that it was flying too high and needed to reroute in order to land safely. But, it crashed before making a proper landing.
