FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A police officer shot a man in Fort Wayne on Wednesday.

Investigators say the officer was in the area of the Autumn Woods Apartments in Victoria Park on the south side of the city. He was helping out someone with a disabled vehicle when a person who was not involved with the initial call started firing his gun.

Police say information is sketchy still, but they think that man was firing his gun at another person who he was yelling back and forth with. It got to the point that the officer fired his weapon at the man wounding him. The other suspect involved in the yelling match ran off.

“The officer was really dealing with this separate issue and then two individuals kind of razzing start engaging each other with the officer there and the officer has to do his job,” said Sgt. Jeremy Webb with Fort Wayne Police.

Webb said they are reviewing police car dash cam footage as well as body camera footage of the incident. The man who was shot is in bad shape at the hospital.
