INDIANAPOLIS — One person’s body was found Tuesday morning by firefighters at a house that caught on fire on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
At around 2 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to a house fire in the 2400 block of West 61st Street, which is near Kessler Boulevard and Michigan Road.
“The biggest issue for us was establishing a water supply to put this fire out,” said Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith.
With there being no hydrants in the area, firefighters had to bring in tankers filled with water to put out the fire.
Firefighters searched the house, found the victim, and removed that person through a window.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine the man’s cause of death and share his name once relatives have been notified.
The fire was marked under control at around 3:10 a.m. and firefighters left the scene about 90 minutes later, according to Reith.
No firefighters were injured.
“Thankfully no one else was hurt. Everything else was pretty routine for us aside from finding the victim,” said Reith.
Firefighters are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
