STATEWIDE–There could be severe weather across Indiana Wednesday followed by a significant drop in temperatures Thursday.
“There is an isolated chance for a few storms Wednesday. Right now, it’s just a marginal risk. We think the main hazards will be damaging winds and large hail,” said Greg Melo, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
A marginal risk means isolated severe storms are possible, with the threat of isolated damaging winds, small hail and maybe a tornado.
“Unfortunately, when there’s a marginal risk, usually that’s when we have the most uncertainty and questions. Despite that, we’re not too confident that there will be widespread severe weather,” said Melo.
Melo says the best chances for severe weather are in the northeast portions of central Indiana, but the whole state needs to be ready.
“It looks like the storm will start Wednesday afternoon or evening,” said Melo.
Once Thursday rolls around, Melo says you will notice in difference in the air quickly.
“You’ll really feel the cooler air when you wake up Thursday morning. Thursday and Friday will bring fall-like weather,” said Melo.
Melo believes high temperatures will be in the 70s Thursday with lows being either in the 40s or 50s. They’ll stay that way for the next few days.
