INDIANAPOLIS — A man is dead after a crash on the south side of Indianapolis Saturday night.

Indianapolis Metro Police say officers responded to U.S. 31 and Edgewood Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on a call of a serious injury crash. Police arrived and learned there were 4 cars involved in the crash.

According to detectives, a black 2018 Jeep Compass was heading north on U.S. 31 crossing Edgewood Avenue with a green light when a 2006 white Dodge Ram pickup truck did not stop for the red light while heading west on Edgewood Avenue and hit the passenger side of the Jeep. Police say the driver of the Dodge then hit a black 2020 Toyota Corolla, which spun out and hit a silver 2016 Hyundai Sonata.

The passenger in that Jeep Compass died from their injuries, while the driver was left in critical condition. The driver of the Dodge Ram that apparently caused the crash was in critical condition and suspected of driving drunk. The driver was taken to a hospital and is still there, although apparently under arrest.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla that was hit and spun out was taken to Methodist Hospital in downtown Indianapolis in serious condition.

There’s no booking photo of the suspect at this time, according to IMPD.
